MANY PEOPLE ARE COMMENTING ON VARIOUS FORUMS REGARDING ASPECTS OF THE DESIGN OF THE NEW LAMBRETTA STYLED S5 PROTOTYPE, WHAT PEOPLE SHOULD REALISE IS THAT IT IS ONLY A PROTOTYPE MADE TO EXPLORE WHAT CHANGES NEEDED TO BE MADE TO A STD LAMBRETTA SHELL TO ACCOMODATE THE EXTREMELY BULKY PIAGGIO 4 VALVE 4 STROKE ENGINES AND ALL THERE ANCILLARY COMPONENTS. ALL THE COMPONENT BODY PARTS USED ARE STD APART FROM THE WIDENED REAR SECT WHICH EVEN AS WIDE AS IT IS ONLY JUST CONTAINS THE 4 VALVE ENGINE. THIS 4 VALVE ENGINE WILL NOT ACCEPT A WHEEL SIZE SMALLER THAN 13" HENCE THE NEED TO EXTEND THE LENGTH OF THE UPPER BODY SECT. THERE IS NO METHOD OF FITTING THIS MOTOR WITHOUT THESE CHANGES.ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF THE SCOOTER ARE SIMILAIR UTILISING SYSTEMS AND CONTROLS THAT ARE NEEDED TO PROVE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE BASIC CONCEPT BUT ARE NOT NESCERCARILY WHAT WILL BE USED IN PRODUCTION. THE NEXT STAGE FOR THIS SCOOTER IS FOR TOOLING TO BE PRODUCED TO A FINALISED DESIGN THAT WILL RESEMBLE THE TEST VEHICHLES BUT MAY NOT BE EXACTLY THE SAME.
IN TESTS CONDUCTED WHILST THE FIRST PROTOTYPE WAS BEING EVALUATED BY PIAGGIO THE SCOOTER WAS FOUND TO BE MORE STABLE THAN EQUIVALANT PIAGGIO MODELS WITH LESS SIDE WIND EFFECT BEING FELT AND MORE SECURE CORNERING. THIS PROTOTYPE WHICH HAD A 250 CARBUERETTOR ENGINE FITTED WAS GPS TRACKED AT OVER 90 MPH THAT NO STD EQUIVALANT PIAGGIO MODEL OF THE SAME CAPACITY CAN ACHIEVE. WHICH PROVES THE SOUNDNESS OF THE ORIGINAL LAMBRETTA DESIGN AND SHAPE WHICH WE ARE TRYING TO BE AS FAITHFULL TO AS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE CONSTRAINTS OF THE ORIGINAL SHAPE.
